Brean Sands 2008

This years week flying week is August 30th - September 6th.

It's probably to late to book statics but you could still take your own tourer or caravan. many are doing that year including a few LMAers

I have got details of the week on Veaseyjet.

Greg,
As far as I know, no forum has a 'edit' feature mainly because it's to easy for people to alter the message of someone else to something that was not intended.
To provide a 'edit' feature i will have to give people access to the forum database, so no chance of that.

Can you join channel 7 and 8 together and use for flaps.
I don't want to join them together in to a y lead because then I would have to reverse one of the servos.

Ron Pearman 2648:
Make sure the servos are facing the same direction then they will push or pull together. You can use the flap channel for both then - with a Y lead.

Robin Woodhead 1267:
Stephen,
If you use Hitec digital servo's it is possible to programme then to roate in opposite directions even connected by a 'Y' lead, now the price of digital servo's is getting better, this is an easy way to solve problems .

Steve 2333:
Generaly Yes, but it depends what radio gear you have.

You could:
Use a mixing function and set Channel 7 as master and Channel 8 as slave. This way either servo can be reversed. Beware though, try to find out if you can inhibit the switch associated with Channel 8. (This function not available on many transmitters) If you don't then moving Channel 8 on the TX will give you assymetric flaps! Most likely causing an accident.

Best option would be to buy an SM services servo reverser. Simple and cheap. You can then use a normal Y lead.

Hope that helps.

Ian Redshaw:
To answer the question Steven, if you have a computer transmitter, then yes you can. You can also use the mix and the ATV functions to get the two flaps moving in perfect unison. Hope this helps, Ian.

stephen spittle:
Thanks for your help.
Have now sorted out the problem

2.4. For Tony Hooper. I gather that the restrictions outlined in "information" may now be lifted? Might we have clarification please?

Rob Cavell 529:
Chris,
Read post number 804.
The news is still "With the birds" I'm afraid.

Chris 291:
Reading 804, it seems that 2.4 is allowed subject to certain restrictions. Might it not be better to reiterate these in the "Information" header to the site - as at the moment, the information there seems to reflect the situation back in March? Chris

LMA Gaydon Event - Static and Trade Show
October 26th 2008

Only 2 months to go to this event. Application forms for exhibitors will appear in the next Journal. Because the LMA is a national organisation we want to encourage individuals and Groups to display at this event to show those members of the public who may not be aware of our hobby in any detail what the LMA is all about.
The Heritage Motor Museum at Gaydon is an excellent modern venue with easy access from Junc 12 of the M40 motorway.
All exhibitors who make a formal application either as a Group or individuals will be sent a free entry pass for each exhibitor (1 person and a helper.)
Non exhibitors will be able to gain entrance to the Musuem (on production of an LMA or BMFA membership card) for a charge of £4 for 2 persons. The normal entrance charge is £9 per person. We already have a good trade show support so even if you are not exhibiting this will be an opportunity to buy those items for your winter projects.

Rob LMA 3994:
Winter projects? Have we had a summer yet? I must have been on nights when that came & went!

Bickley LMA fly-in

The 2nd LMA fly-in this year at Bickley is only a few weeks away. September 14th

Our recent scale meet was a bit of a wash out so I'm hoping the LMA meet makes up for it.

Could all those hoping to come please email me to give me an idea of numbers. I need to know if the burger man is needed!!

Also, I'm trying to secure all channels but its not confirmed yet. If I can't do it remember that we are odds only!

More details on: http://www.veaseyjet.com/VeaseyJet/LMA.html

Help needed---i am in the process of arranging a holiday for the New England area of USA up to Toronto in Canada--i would like to visit any good aircraft museums/model shops in this area---any ideas???

BRIAN RAWCLIFFE 1669:
Dave,if you are in Toronto you must visit Hamilton. It's approx one hours drive,or you can take a bus.I worked at the steel works in Hamilton in 1985/6,and Hamilton air museum is one of the best in Canada. Also as a bonus, Niagra falls is only another hours drive from Hammilton, the wife will love it,hope this helps i had a wonderful time when i was their.Brian

Chris Lane 2938:
Dave, I can recommend the Owls Head Transportation Museum in Maine which is on an airport and has a good aircraft display. It has a web site so you can look it over before you go!

Scott Douglas No.Pending:
Dave,

What way are you going up to Toronto? I went from New York last year up through Syracuse and stopped over at Niagara Falls...well worth a visit! On the way back to toronto from there I stopped off at Hobby Hobby (http://www.hobbyhobby.com/store/contact_us.php) in Mississauga, a cracking shop with tons of goodies!!. Cheers, Scott

DAVE JOHNSON 309:
Thanks guys--all very helpfull, all above have been stored in Satnav----

DAVE JOHNSON 309:
Scott--i am flying into Toronto---would be interested to know what the border crossing is like at Niagra??

Scott Douglas -No.pending:
Dave,

It's a long drawn-out process I'm afraid. Both times I've done it (once from Niagara and once from the Montreal side) it's taken over an hour.

After the grilling about where you're going, how much money you have with you and show them hotel reservations and your tickets home, they leave you for ages while they run checks on you. They're ok but incredibly slow.

They give you a little green card stapled to your passport, make sure you hand it back to the Canadian authorities if you're flying home from Canada (they sometimes wave you through at the Canadian side of the Freedom Bridge without you stopping) but you need to hand it back or the good 'ol USA thinks you've never left... makes for an interesting time next time you try to get in ( he says from experience!).

Cheers
Scott

DAVE JOHNSON 309:
Thanks Scott--will look forward to that then !!!!!

Paul2412:
I did a similar trip in 2005,
driving from newaerk through new england to Montreal, toronto, niagra, indianapolis and back to newark.
stoped at the new england air museum on route
http://www.neam.org/ small but worth astop if passing.

Paul2412:
Dave,
No probs going from canada at niagra into US just waved us through, but we did have NY state plates on the car.
You can also stock up with duty frees in the shop before crossing over the bridge and also get your canada tax back also in the duty free shop, this includes duty paid on hotel rooms and gifts etc whislt in canada.

Scott Douglas : 3087:
If you stop over at Niagara Falls, take time and head back to Toronto via Niagara On The Lake... a bit of Ye Olde Worlde Canada, lovely vineyards and has the cablecar over the whirlpool...."intersting" in a wind as my wife would say!

Pete Siggins 983:
hi Dave, you are not a million miles away from Rhinebeck - absolutely fascinating full of WW1 aircraft.Stay at the Beekman Arms whilst there.

Grahamd (2388):
Dave the museum at Hamilton is a must, speak nicely to the staff and persuade them to let you into the Lancaster (the only other flying example in the World), and the B-25. I've been a few times, love it.

As for the crossing into Niagra, done it about 20+ times, as my company has offices in Rochester and Toronto, just be patient. Dont cross over Friday PMs as the wait is horrible as the Yanks cross into Canada for the "Canadian Ballet (ask me!!" and Casinos.

Theres a model shop in Buffalo (next to the falls on the US side) that claims to be the "Largest" in the USA, I've also been there a few times.

When in Toronto go up the Skylon tower, sit in the revolving restaurant and have a Pizza (home made) with a Labbats Blue, yummy.

Either way, have fun.
Graham

DAVE JOHNSON 309:
Thanks for all the above--it sounds like i need an extra week !!!!!

Sounds good! As newcomer, are we able to bring a guest, and are there any special restrictions/rules to be aware of? Have been to Winterton for public LMA shows, but not attended "fly ins". Flown R/C for 30 years,so well aware of biting props etc! With a prayer to the sun gods..................

Wondered if to save the day at some venues if in the planning stages two runways could be planned and the show set out to be able to switch. Looking at Rufforth and Cosford there was a large area into wind that could have been made available. Just a thought. Some models could have coped with into wind landingsstrong though it was. Admired the people who did fly in the afternoon.

Robin Woodhead 1267:
A valid suugestion, but in the case of Ruffoth it would not saved the day as the wind speed over the wind speed permitted by our insuance.

Rob Cavell:
Is that correct?
That would that be the show insurance then as opposed to the LMA individual?

At what wind speed is the insurance imposed cut off point for wind speed?
I have not been on the show circuit for some time now but I've never heard of this before, you live and learn.

But Dave's valid point of course is not the lack of flying but the absence of static and the attitude "If I can't fly then I'm packing up".

Andy Symons 2556:
In an ideal world this would be great, not too sure about other venues but I cannot see how you could at Rufforth. I think the max allowed wind speed to be able to fly is 25mph I am sure someone will be along to correct me if I am wrong.
Dave has a very good point, people were paying to get in and there was not a lot to see and while the conditions can't be helped we do have a responsibility to the paying public. I can understand however why some would want to get off earlier if they have long journeys to make.

Paul Holt:
Im sure Dave said over the microphone at ruffroth the limit was 22 knots, and it was above that witht the wind getting stronger.

Chris Lane 2938:
22kt IS 25mph!

Paul Holt:
Ah!!

Martin Waller LMA1237:
See BMFA Handbook page 33 "No flying will take place if the surface wind speed exceeds 25 Knots, or if the visibility is less than 500metres" This rule has been in the BMFA rule book for the last 30 years to my knowledge. The LMA insurance have stated 25MPH.

Dave Berry 2911:
Cant see any reference to 25mph in the 2007 BMFA handbook.Page 33 deals with LiPo's etc.Page 17 (k) quotes CAP658 and says"only fly in suitable conditions",and "if light conditions or visibility are such that you might lose sight of your model then do not fly".
If I was a slope soarer 25mph would be pretty tame!

Dave Berry 2911:
Apologies Martin its on page 42 specifically for display flying-I assume at club fields CAP658 still applies

Rob Cavell 529:
Like I said:
You live and learn!

For info : Belle Vue Event, 20th to 27th August 2008 CANCELLED.

Please note that the above fly-in event has unfortunately had to be CANCELLED due to the recent heavy rainfall in Devon causing the flying field to become waterlogged, making it unusable. I’m sorry for any disappointment.
